Msomaji is a little girl from the Southside of Chicago who wants to see the world. But due to economic constraints, her parents can’t make travel a reality right now. So she pretends that her baby blanket is a magic carpet that takes her wherever she wants to go. Along the way, she learns that hard work and faith are the keys to making her dreams come true. Her lesson is that no matter how things look in the moment, the ticket to success is to DREAM BIG.

About the author

Tiffany D. Smith is a journalist and food and travel influencer from Chicago, IL. After spending 16 years working in live TV News, she decided to launch The Love of Food & Travel LLC to inspire kids to see the world. She fell in love with travel after receiving her first passport stamp in her late 30’s and has since become passionate about teaching kids from underserved communities the benefits of experiencing other cultures. She holds a Masters Degree in Journalism and a Bachelor’s Degree in Radio & Television Production from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. 

 

Her work has been published in xoNecole, Blackdoctor.org and The Chicago Defender. She is also a volunteer with Chicago Public Schools and soon plans to make travel accessible to Black children by curating local and international trips. In her free time, Tiffany loves reading books on spirituality, doing yoga and spending time with family and friends.
